CAD/CAM/FMS Laboratory

 

Looking to current scenario of technological revolution in the Indian Industries, in depth study of the Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) is an important aspect. The current day manufacturing is facing a number of challenges, which require a different type of design and manufacturing solutions than can be done with conventional manufacturing methods. Hence, concurrent design aspect can be achieved in less time by using various CAD/CAM tools only. Moreover, many factors require that flexibility in manufacturing operations become a vital element in the survival of the globalised economy. The enterprises should be flexible enough to cater to the changing requirements of the market. Flexible Manufacturing Systems (FMS) provide a system to fit into such difficult manufacturing situations.

The CAD/CAM/FMS laboratory comprise of following computer tools, machines and setups:

FLUID MECHANICS LABORATORY

HYDRAULIC MACHINES AND TURBO MACHINARY LABORATORY 

Fluid machines have vast field of application like power generation, pumping of fluid in industries, irrigation and drinking purpose also they are used in various machine tools. In our laboratories we have several test rigs to have performance analysis of fluid machines, which can be compared with theory studied. Also we have equipments like open circuit and cascade wind tunnel to study performance of blade profile and cascade. The experiments being conducted in these laboratories are performance characteristic of various turbines and pumps, comparison of potential and real flow around cylinder, blade profile and cascade performance, performance of axial flow fan and blower. 

FLUID MECHANICS LABORATORY

 Basic concept of fluids and fluid are essential in all engineering disciplines to get better understanding. Student should know through various experiments how experimental results are accurate compared to theoretical values and to find out reasons for deviation if any. In our laboratory we have equipments like Bernoulli’s theorem apparatus, notch apparatus, venture meter, orifice meter, losses through pipes and met centric height of ship model.

FLUID POWER CONTROL LAB 

A well furnished FPC laboratory at ADIT enables the students to design some basic Circuits which are commonly used in day to day life and will enhance knowledge for future innovations. Theoretical concepts learned in the class work are used to prepare various circuits in HUDRAULICS and PNEUMATICS with that student should get some real idea regarding the power transmission and automation. This lab consists eight perpetual license of simulation software (FLUID SIM HYDRAULIC and FLUID SIM PNUAMITIC) which are sourced Germany based company FESTO. To assist the students in self-making circuits using the software and simulation tools, high end computing facilities are provided. A snap shot of some of the facilities available include:

MATERIALS SCIENCE LABORATORY

 All engineers are involved with materials on a daily basis. we manufacture and process materials design and construct components or structures using materials ,select materials, analyze failures of materials or simply hope that material we are using perform adequately. The subject Material science is a stepping stone for all the engineers who want to become pioneers in the field. The laboratory is designed to serve the broader spectrum of objectives:

  • To different engineering materials, properties and their micro structure.

  • To understand defects and imperfections in materials.

  • To improve understanding on concepts related to heat treatment

The facilities available in laboratory include:

  • Rockwell cum Brinell Hardness Tester

  • Single Disc Polishing m/c

  • Specimen mounting Press

  • Jominy End Quench Apparatus

  • Metallurgical microscopes

  • Muffle Furnace – 1200 0C

MECHANICAL MEASUREMENTS LABORATORY

Measuring and control is the most critical area in engineering. Recent advances in technology and the accompanying increased applications of measurement and control has made instrumentation an essential part of the technological development. ADIT offers a well-developed laboratory to the students for gaining hands-on experiences. A summary of equipments available in laboratory include:

INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE LABORAT0RY

 Teaching of Internal Combustion Engines is a very important part of mechanical engineers' curriculum. ADIT offers a well furnished laboratory which is specifically designed to serve the needs of undergraduate students. Laboratory aims to develop understanding on fundamentals and even capable enough to undertake research projects. In addition, availability of cut section of various I. C. engine parts and well calibrated equipments facilitates the performance evaluation of engines. A brief summary of facilities available include:

REFRIGERATION AND AIRCONDITIONG LABORATORY

Refrigeration is important for preservation and providing low temperatures. Air-conditioning is essential for human comfort in adverse climate. Laboratory has following facilities

VIBRATION LABORATORY

In any structure or assembly, certain whole-body motions and certain deformations are more common than others; the most likely (easiest to excite) motions will occur at certain natural frequencies. Certain exciting or forcing frequencies may coincide with the natural frequencies (resonance) and give relatively severe vibration responses. ADIT vibration lab offers a unique opportunity to the students to learn basics on theory of machine and vibrations, identifying and analyzing the causes and simulating the situations which can offer greater insights into the rout causes. For the purpose, laboratory is equipped with state-of-the are facilities like:

2.      Governors – Hartnel, Proell, Porter, Watt

3.      Balancing – static and dynamic

4.      Cam and follower system

5.      Universal vibration test apparatus

6.      Whirling of shaft set up

COMPUTATIONAL FLUID DYNAMICS LABORATORY

Mechanical engineering Department has recently added this new Laboratory. CFD is emerging as an important tool for analysis of various systems involving flow and heat transfer. WORKSHOP

Institute has spent more than 60 lacks of rupees in the development of a state-of-the-art workshop facility. ADIT workshop is fully equipped to cater the needs of various courses related to production and mechanical engineering, student projects and industry consultancy work. A snap shot of select facilities available in the workshop include:

1.      Manufacturing shop with general purpose machines – lathe, milling, radial drill, sloter, shaper etc.

2.      Advance – automatic and semi-automatic machine tools like cylindrical grinder, capstone lathe, milling machine etc.

3.      Welding shop equipped with arc welding, resistance welding, AC/DC Tig welding, gas cutting, plasma cutting, submerged arc welding etc.

4.      Sheet metal equipments – power press and press shearing machine, press brake and bending rolls etc.

5.      Foundry shop equipped with mould making, melting and pouring facility and sand testing laboratory

6.      Metrology laboratory is equipped with tool room microscope, profile projector, auto collimeter, interferometer, table center, sine-center, all common measuring instrument like vernier, micrometers, Mitutoyo made roughness tester etc.
